This is book two in the series of Viking brothers. I enjoyed reading Ruard and Catriona's story. All of the stories are written as novellas so they are short. I recommend reading each in the order that they are written for the full effect. Great stories but my one complaint is that I wish they were written as full length stories. The author definitely has enough story lines and plot intrigue to justify a full length novel for each story. If you want a quick lusty read then these stories are a good choice.Summary:To save her sister, can Catriona slay the Dragon Slayer?Ruard, the Viking warrior known as The Dragon Slayer, has no great hopes for the wife he's to take as the lord of Dunnsmuir Castle, so long as she's a biddable wife, with all her teeth, who doesn't drool--a plain, humble woman. He has no use for the flame-haired nymph with breasts as ripe as melons and whose supple hips beckon a man's hands. Nor for a maiden with a stubborn chin and flashing eyes that speak of naught but trouble.Catriona hopes for a husband `twill be easy to poison. Lord Ulfric holds her sister captive and demands Catriona do his bidding: poison his Viking rival, the man they call the Dragon Slayer. Catriona hopes for a cruel warrior, a man easy to hate, not this Thor god come to life with golden hair, sky blue eyes, and a laughing smile. Her sister's life depends on it, but how can she slay this Ruard, her new husband, who makes her heart pound with joy?

This is not the type of book I usually read. I tend to stick with contemporary or paranormal romances. This book hooked me from page one. I fell in love with both characters immediately. Ruard is a strong, sexy hero. Catriona is also a great female lead with a good head on her shoulders. The Viking environment was so natural and authentic that I had no problem feeling that I was there. One of my favorite things was how the dialogue had a musical quality. This was my first book from Jianne Carlo, and I just downloaded The Peace Maker. I look forward to reading more.

I enjoyed Ruard and Catriona's chemistry and the tinge of mystery surrounding the squalid state of their new castle. I dislike when secrets and misunderstandings cause needless problems in a story, because it always seems a desperate act to lengthen a story, and I was glad to see Catriona was brave enough to put her trust in Ruard, before things were carried too far. This was a short story, and though I enjoyed it, I did feel the ending a bit hurried. The next book in this series is The Peacemaker, about the next brother, Njal.

Ruard asks throughout Book 2 Viking Warriors before proclaiming that his wife will never thread another needle. But....you'll have to read the book to learn the significance of it. This book is better than the Bear and the Bride, Book 1. I like both Ruard and Catriona better. More personality. You won't be disappointed.

The Dragon Slayer is a novella that has a lot of the things I enjoy when reading a Viking romance novel. Really hot love scenes between the hero and heroine. The Viking hero Ruard is big, muscular, virile and golden all over (yes, you have to use the word virile at least once in a Viking romance novel). He's also gets very jealous when anyone touches his Catriona or even looks at her too long. Oh, I just love a big beautiful jealous Viking...yummy.There are a couple of fight scenes and thank goodness author Jianne Carlo' doesn't go into a lot of detail about them in this novella. I always skim through that part anyways when I'm reading them. The Dragon Slayer is book two in Jianne Carlo's Viking Warrior's series. Book three in the series titled The Peacemaker is due to be released in June. This will be Ruard's brother Njal's love story. We get to see him a lot in The Dragon Slayer.I fell in love with Catriona's little seven year old sister Gaeierla who thinks Ruard is the norse god Thor. Maybe one day later in the series we will get her love story. I hope we get to see her grow up and fall in love with a big golden Viking like Thor.I love the cover of this book. The cover model is Sam Bond and I think he makes for a perfect Viking. Great choice for the cover model.

Great read. Riveting story line with spicy details.

The Dragon Slayer was an excellent read! Ruard is a sexy hero who is easy to like and Catriona is the perfect heroine for him. I highly recommend The Dragon Slayer to anyone who wants to read a fast-paced, sexy love story that will leave you waiting for the next installment!

The Dragon Slayer was a nice short read. Of course with novella's, it's never enough. They always leave you wanting more. This was a good historical romance, although it felt like a full story was written and then parts of the story were removed to create a novella. A couple of paragraphs I read seemed to have some parts of the story missing in between them. All in all it did not take away from the romance, it's always good when you have a hero who protects what's his as Ruard did in this novel. I'm actually into paranormal novels, but after reading and enjoying "The Bear and the Bride", I wanted to read book 2: The Dragon Slayer. I will probably move on to The Peacemaker and The Destroyer next.
