About the Author
J. Robert Lilly is Regents Professor of Sociology/Criminology and Adjunct Professor of Law at Northern Kentucky University. His research interests include the pattern of capital crimes committed by U.S. soldiers during World War II, the “commercial–corrections complex,†juvenile delinquency, house arrest and electronic monitoring, criminal justice in the People’s Republic of China, the sociology of law, and criminological theory. He has published in Criminology, the British Journal of Criminology, Crime and Delinquency, Social Problems, Legal Studies Forum, Northern Kentucky Law Review, Journal of Drug Issues, The New Scholar, Adolescence, Qualitative Sociology, Federal Probation, International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice, Justice Quarterly, and The Howard Journa of Criminal Justice. He has coauthored several articles and book chapters with Richard A. Ball, and he is coauthor of House Arrest and Correctional Policy: Doing Time at Home (1988). In 2003, he published La Face Cachée des GI’s: Les Viols commis par des soldats amércains en France, en Angleterre et en Allemange pendat la Second Guerre mondial, 1942–1945. It was translated into Italian and published (2004) as Stuppi Di Guerra: Le Violenze Commesse Dai Soldati Americani in Gran Bretagna, Francia e Germania 1942–1945. It was published in English in 2007 as Taken by Force: Rape and American GIs in Europe During World War II. The latter work is part of his extensive research on patterns of crimes and punishments experienced by U.S. soldiers in WWII in the European theater of war. The Hidden Face of the Liberators, a made-for-TV documentary by Program 33 (Paris), was broadcast in Switzerland and France in March 2006 and was a finalist at the International Television Festival of Monte Carlo in 2007. He is the past treasurer of the American Society of Criminology. In 1988, he was a visiting professor in the School of Law at Leicester Polytechnic and was a visiting scholar at All Soul’s College in Oxford, England. In 1992, he became a visiting professor at the University of Durham in England. Between 2006 and 2012, he was coeditor of The Howard Journal of Criminal Justice.

It came decently quick, and was received in good condition. I needed it for school and it came just in time for assignments, I had no worries. Haven't read too far into the textbook, however so far enjoy the organization and material it presents. Its easy to read and understand.
I've taken a lot of legal classes and thus far this is the most "dry" book I've ever been assigned. It doesn't present as an "easy read," and it doesn't make for an easy reference book because it lacks handy section breaks, key notes, and other basic helpful tools. There are virtually zero photos, colorful inserts, bold sections, or other definitive markings to help you navigate the topics and sections. It's a dry read, and even though the topic is interesting (or normally should/would be)--this book will probably hit you with some reservation and the overwhelming desire to look for the CliffsNotes version instead.My suggestion: BUY THE BOOK AND INVEST IN STICKY NOTES, COLORED TABS, AND HIGHLIGHTERS. You may also find you need to put up a "CRAZY WALL"--extracting the vital information from the text, including copying entire pages for quick reference so you can highlight, and plastering one (well-hidden from public view) wall for learning and test preparation. This book needs some serious help making it personalized, readable, non-intimidating, and enjoyable.*********You know the Super Nerd that had issues in social situations and making friends because he was just too smart for his own good and couldn't function with the banality of mere mortals? Well, he grew up and he wrote a book--this book. And now everyone that laughed at him in grade school for being just a little bit odd, a little too different, and unquestionably for being the obviously "smart kid" is getting payback for it. While you were busy sitting with the "in crowd" and going to football games with your friends and making out behind the bleachers, this guy was plotting his revenge--a time when the fortune's of man would be reversed, when he would have all the power and control, and when plebeians such as yourself were forced to submit to his tyranny at long last. And now his nefarious plan has manifested itself in the version of THIS BOOK, all culminating in one glorious ode to sweet, slow torture, one agonizing chapter after the next. Our Boy Wonder unleashed his cold-served revenge upon the world--and if the dry read doesn't do you in, the Highway Hypnosis from the endless pages of black and white Times New Roman 12-point font will.
