My grandson Zazu and I love this very detailed, historically nuanced book. He is almost 7 but is able to feel and admire the courage and power of Douglass' character in the face of continuing racism and extreme hardship. I am proud of his response and identification with the nobility of Frederick Douglass.

Love, love, love this series! I’m a ln ILA teacher and these books are a must-have for my classroom!

My kids and I read this together and it was great. Even I learned some new things about him!

My boys love reading this book and all of the ones from this series.
