This was a really fun book for kids to try out. Got them a leprechaun doll and paired with this book made St. Patrick's day super fun for my girls. My 3 year old wanted to play with the leprechaun and when it left on St. Patrick's day to "go back to Ireland" we sprinkled shamrocks around the house leading to the backyard and then used green sidewalk paint to make footprints leading to some gold chocolate coins for them. The book gets them in the mood for the holiday and talks about making traps -which we did-fun. But was a little long winded for my kids 3.5 and 1.5. It also talked about traps that failed and running out of ideas which was a little discouraging part when your making a really simple trap with real small kids.

I got the book for all four of my grand families. Then a couple weeks later I sent a leprechaun plush doll and they all had so much fun building traps and cleaning up after their leprechauns got into mischief at night when they were sleeping! A fun new magical family tradition! The book itself is ok. Story is fun, illustrations just ok, but the idea is great fun!!

I just recieved this book this morning (it came very quick!!) I bought this book for a new tradition, we do Elf Magic Elves for Christmas and the kids just love this.. so we decided to do a Leprechaun Elf for St. Patricks, and this is the perfect book!!!!! If you have ever thought about this...where a leprechaun comes to stay in March, and comes to life at night , going on Leprechauncapades lol.) and then you find him in the am....this is the perfect book!!!! so cute!!! Be warned... if your kids have Christmas Elves that stay with them in December, and they read this book...or you read it to them... They will want a Leprechaun to visit them as well!!! In the story the Leprechaun comes March 1. and stays until St. Patricks.. (he of course escapes the Leprechaun traps that are set...lol)(our leprechaun will come for a week!!) So find a cute Leprechaun and get this book!!! start a new tradition!!!! Make some great memories!!! I'm so excited to start this!!! and so happy I found this book!!

We loved reading this as a family. All the silly ways used to catch leprechauns helped my kids fuel their own imaginations and set traps through our house. Will read this one every year.

This is such a great book especially for St Patricks day. My students Loved it then looked forward to catching our own classroom leprechaun. Great book

This is a wonderful book that gave us great ideas to use for years to come of Leprechaun mischief! Our kids bought it hook,line, and sinker! Loved it!!! As other reviews stated, it may not be a good bed time story simply because of the length of the text, but we enjoyed reading it as a whole family earlier in the day! I highly recommend it!

I think this book should be called â€œThe Missing RTL-SDR Manual.â€ It explained everything I needed to know in order to make my SDR dongle work, and this was especially important because the dongle came with absolutely no instructions. After covering the basics with detailed but simple written directions, screenshots, and a troubleshooting section (which I needed), the book goes into more advanced topics such as receiving digital communications from airplanes, tracking aircraft, displaying live images from NOAA weather satellites, using the Orbitron satellite tracker program, receiving images from the Meteor-M N2 polar orbiting Russian weather satellite, receiving and decoding weather balloon radiosondes, etc., etc. There is an antenna guide, an audio piping guide, a general frequency guide, a section for radio astronomy enthusiasts... The list goes on and on. If there were a Pulitzer Prize for easy-to-understand, useful, and complete instruction manuals covering a wide range of topics for beginners, I think this remarkable book would win it. The author, Carl Laufer, is to be commended for his truly excellent work!â€”Joe Benson

I have to give the book three stars and myself one for buying it: It is strictly a Hobbyist's Guide. It tells you which software to download from where to receive basically everything that can be received with the RTL-SDR. It even tells you how to install the various (often commercial) pieces of software and where to click to make it all run. If there is more than one choice, it even tells you what - in the author's opinion- is the best choice. If, however, you wanted to LEARN anything about what modulation and encoding techniques are used for the different services that can be received or what signal processing the SDR needs to perform to decode it all, you've come to the wrong place. Grudgingly, I would have given the book even more stars, if it were not for the shoddy editing (I got the print edition with lots of erroneous word repetitions, "that" instead of "than" and other typing errors) and the lack of a keyword index at the end. What mislead me was the mentioning of GNURadio (which uses signal processing building blocks for everything) in the table of contents - it is mentioned as a tool, but not used for anything after that. So again, this book may be exactly what you are looking for (except for the bad editing and the lack of an index), but it is definitely not even close to a textbook or manual for engineers that would teach any underlying concepts whatsoever.

It was a compilation of many articles that I found over the internet in doing research into the topic. It was nice to have all the details in one location but not a lot of new content. Was worth the money to anyone who just got a RTL-SDR dongle and wants a single place to to read how to use it rather than search around for the information via search engines. I noted that a lot of people got the dongles for the RTL-SDR purpose and were frustrated in figuring how to use it. This book is for them.

This book IS the encyclopedia of the RTL-SDR USB Dongle Radio's! Very well written and positively overflowing with information, useage ideas, and other interesting suggestions! Great Read!!!

This book will tell you all you need to know to get started with an RTL-SDR system. In addition, it covers a number of issues in detail, provides links to online sources for hardware and software. Finally, there is a list of projects to try with your new SDR. If you're getting started, this book will get you well and truly on the way. The only thing lacking is a decent tutorial in installing GNU Radio, which can be a daunting task.Overall, a highly recommended book for anyone looking to explore low cost SDR technology or is looking for a new project to try.

Lots of detailed work put into this book. I have only been 25% through it, but so far it is excellent. I have been in the radio biz for 40 yr and I can honestly say SDR tech is revolutionary to say the least. The geek factor will be high for those without experience, but the only way to get experience is to jump in and get your feet wet. There is much to explore over time in this book.

As someone who didn't have a clue about what RTL-SDR is, this guide works, especially the early sections. They're clear and straightforward. I struggled with the detail in some of the later sections, and missed not having more - in some cases - about why you'd want to use a particular program, what it could accomplish, how it might be interesting. Still, it's worth the money just to have everything in one place.

Very nice book. Easy to understand and informative as well. Good to have a quick jump and start doing stuff. If you are c Moletelt clueless and want something to actually teach you more about the things used or some of the other topics. Then you might wanna buy something else. But, overall this is a rather decent book to enjoy reading and learning from and also doing something practical.

This book. Holy wow! How can one person top herself over and over again?!? I am blown away by Reid's ability to write such engaging, real-life, entertaining, phenomenal stories, one after the other! I loved her last one, and the one before it... And I am in love with this one too!Let me start with how realistic this book felt. You will probably think I am dumb, but I honestly forgot this book is a fictional book about a fictional band. It is told so vividly and accurately that I went and googled Daisy & the Six. I kid you not. I am not ashamed to admit it. I totally did!The format of this book is completely different that any other book. It did take me a minute or five to get used to it, but once I did, there was no stopping those pages from turning. I can't see this book told any other way. It was perfect for this story. And the why it was told this way does reveal itself towards the end, which made the story even more profound.These characters. I was worried because of the way Reid was telling the story that I wouldn't be able to connect to any of them. I was wrong. I connected to these characters so deeply. I didn't want their story to end. I wanted everyone to have unicorns and rainbows by the end. I was totally invested in them throughout the entire book.I want to address something about this book and early reviews I have seen. I don't do this often, hardly ever, but I feel the need to point some things out. I have seen some mark this book with triggers. Let me be clear, there aren't actual incidences where any form of a trigger warning would be necessary. This book is about a band in the 70s and 80s. If you know anything about that time, especially about bands in that era, it was sex, drugs, and rock n roll. This book depicts those things vividly, but not in detail. Does the book mention they do drugs? Yes. Does it mention promiscuous sex? Yes. Does it mention sex and females of questionable age? Yes. Notice I used the word mention. There aren't details. There is a depiction of what was going on in that time era. So, if you see reviews that make you leary, I would take them lightly.I think this book will be a top book of the year for me. I know, it's early, but this book is THAT good. I can't give it enough praise. I truthfully cannot think of a negative thing to say about it.

Good reviews, both in prominent media outlets and here on Amazon, are never indicative of a novel's true merit.At least, that's what I've learned this week.In this novel, an intriguing concept - an oral history of a legendary 70s era musical act featuring a magnetic singer - is meekly executed. The characters (including said "magnetic" singer) lack character, and there is little suspense or drama. The journey of Daisy Jones & The Six is serendipitous rather than dramatic. Unfortunately, serendipitous tales are tedious reading. Standard rock scene tropes (the drugs, the groupies, the excess brought by fame) are dutifully trotted out, but there is very little here that feels authentic or grabs one's attention.I'm not sure why there is so much enthusiasm for this novel. Frankly, I'm reminded of recent news stories reporting that many "user reviews" posted to online marketplaces and review sites are actually fabricated (think marketing) pieces. At very least, most of the hyper-enthusiastic Amazon reviews appear to be from readers who were given advance copies (and so have an incentive to over-hype what they receive). Either or both of these is a plausible explanation for the 4.5 star rating here on Amazon.In any case, I found this novel unremarkable - a 2 star work at best.

This novel was so incredibly authentic that about 50 pages into it, I actually Googled Daisy Jones to see if somehow, this band were real and I didnâ€™t know about them.I love, loved, LOVED every page and itâ€™s already a contender for Top Ten of 2019 for me â€“ and 2019 hasnâ€™t even begun. Here are some of the reasons why:Itâ€™s REAL â€“ the good, the bad, the ugly: As someone who truly â€œcame of ageâ€ in the 70s, this book really caught the vibe. The book captures a time before sound-effects-gone-wild dominated the music industry. Taylor Jenkins Reid captures the atmosphere superbly.Itâ€™s INSIGHTFUL: These are characters who are passionate about their music, their lives, and each other. They yearn, they love, they bleed. They experience the push and pull between the lure of temptation and staying on the right path. They donâ€™t always succeed, but wow do they try.Itâ€™s INTELLIGENT: This isnâ€™t the same hashed-over story of a bandâ€™s meteoric rise and plunge back to earth. Billy Dunne is an artist with issues, sure, but heâ€™s also a person who survives despite his instincts. â€œMy instincts said to run toward the chaos. But my better brain sent me home to my woman.â€ Daisy Jones is a gorgeous pill-popping immensely talented singer, but sheâ€™s also an artist with a complicated inner life and a yearning for a man she cannot have. Every single band member comes alive in this book.Itâ€™s EMOTIVE: There were scenes and lines that made me sit there and cry. Or laugh. Or cheer. As a character-driven reader, I look for characters that could step outside the pages. I felt as if I knew these band members.Itâ€™s ORIGINAL: The fictional book is set up like an oral history compiled and edited from conversations and transcripts, with a surprise at the end. Not only does the author invent a band but also the story behind it â€“ and thereâ€™s even a playlist that accompanies it.I can go on and on but Iâ€™ll end this review with two words: Read it! I promise, youâ€™ll be hooked.
