Disappointing for a novice. 2 paragraphs about the actual stitching method. Only a few words about the right kind of fabric. References kakehari, a sewing clamp, with a picture with the clamp partially hidden by the cloth. No discussion of how to use it. Little discussion of the two unusual ring "thimbles". Lots of patterns with good descriptions. 10 pages about the history of this Japanese craft. Good book for those who are familiar with the art and want lots of patterns.

Concise, Informative sourcebook for sashiko. However, buy it in print if you're the type who likes to examine illustrations closely. I originally purchased the book in Kindle format but was disappointed in the resolution of the images , especially since I wanted to closely examine the tiny stitches. Since the informational content is excellent, I bit the bullet and bought the print version, too. It came in a timely manner and I am pleased to be able to examine the tiny stitches closely.

Although I've been doing embroidery for over forty years, I somehow had never come across Sashiko. Curious, I ordered the book, and this might be my best embroidery purchase ever.It clearly explains the origins of Sashiko, with many scene-setting photos. The directions are easily understood and complete. The many, many patterns are clear, along with ideas for use. There is literally nothing left to do but try it.If you want all the information you need about Sashiko in just one book, this book has it all. No one could be disappointed.

Lovely and engaging representation of this needlework that is taking the U.S. by storm. Basic running stitch required a little attention to stitch length and also the length of the space between stitches (which defines the stitch length). Book includes many and varied projects to apply sashiko to, and a pattern library. I like that patterns which include curves are notated with a separate pattern for the curve, which helped me, as a beginner, to make smooth curves. I definitely recommend this book to be added to your growing library on this Japanese stitching technique.

I have long wanted to try Sashiko embroidery but wasn't sure just how to do it. This book provides step-by-step instructions and pictures, which are so clear that I am looking forward to getting started! I like the projects and also that all of my questions were covered within the book.

I create art quilts so wanted to learn about the different patterns that I might incorporate into my work. Don't think it's likely I'll create dedicated Sashiko works, but am greatly inspired by the pattern ideas. Wonderful illustrations and clear directions. So glad to have this in my library.
